About this Major
The major is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to teach Years 7 to 12 Chemistry and provides the extended content knowledge needed to address the demands and opportunities of the secondary school chemistry curriculum.
Emphasis is given to inquiry-based practical work, demonstrations, co-operative group work, whole class discussions and use of information communication technology, to ensure effective learning and teaching practices in secondary science. Planning, teaching, and assessment strategies are developed within a range of science content areas. There is also a focus on collaborative teaching processes, whilst acknowledging the importance of individual creative practice.

It is desirable that all applicants have ATAR chemistry.

Details
Structure
Students are required to complete 10 Content units and 2 Curriculum units. Content units educate students in the subject area and the Curriculum units explain how to teach the subject area to others. Students must also select the Maths Education Minor (MIAAGW) when choosing this specialisation. Two pathways have been provided for ATAR and non ATAR chemistry backgrounds and the order of unit offerings differs slightly as a consequence. It is therefore important that students studying this Major seek advice from the Student Hub and obtain an individual course planner.
