About this Major
Equips students with the skills and knowledge to teach Years 7 to 12 Mathematics.
Emphasis is given to inquiry-based tasks, co-operative group work and whole class discussions, to ensure effective learning and teaching practices in secondary Mathematics.
Special entry requirements
It is desirable that all applicants demonstrate satisfactory performance in Mathematics Methods ATAR or Mathematics Specialist ATAR, with equivalents considered.

Details
Structure
Students are required to complete 10 Content units and 2 Curriculum units. Content units educate students in the subject area and the Curriculum units explain how to teach the subject area to others.

Plus, complete five units from the following, including at least one Level 3 unit: | ||

NOTE: Students who have NOT completed Mathematics Methods ATAR must complete an additional core unit, MAT1108 Foundations of Mathematics; ie. these students will complete five core units and four core option units (including at least one Level 3 unit), totalling nine units.

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge of mathematics and the Australian curriculum and teaching strategies for mathematics teaching in secondary education.
- Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge of teaching strategies to plan for the content of mathematics teaching.
- Exercise critical thinking and judgement to plan and implement mathematic programs for a range of students with diverse abilities and needs, and assess the outcomes.
- Communicate knowledge and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats.
- Demonstrate leadership, exercise professional judgement and collaborate to plan, problem solve and make decisions in mathematics.
- Adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts to create positive learning environments in mathematics.
- Critically reflect using accredited standards, mentor feedback and the ECA Code of Ethics to demonstrate responsibility and accountability and plan for continued collaborative and autonomous professional learning and development.
