About this Major
Now more than ever, our world needs sustainability. In this major, you’ll develop the interdisciplinary knowledge needed to be the change, and apply that knowledge to nature conservation, impact assessment and natural resource management.
Studies include an emphasis on field-based exercises, including an exciting project to enrich your understanding of ecologically sustainable processes on land and in water.

Learning Outcomes
- Apply broad discipline knowledge to range of practical situations linked to interdependencies between natural environments and sustainability; sustainability challenges and their drivers; and holistic systems thinking and complexity.
- Analyse experimental data from the perspective of environmental sustainability.
- Formulate hypotheses, design and undertake experiments to generate solutions to sustainability problems.
- Synthesise relevant information from multiple sources using digital technologies.
- Communicate sustainability issues with diverse groups in professional and public contexts.
- Incorporate diverse perspectives into scientific practice, applying a global outlook and including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural perspectives.

Sustainability and environment officers work for government, industry and the non-government sector, in areas such as environmental protection, conservation, natural heritage, land and water management, mining and industry.
