About this Major

Explores management techniques, communication skills and relationship building strategies to create effective and successful production managers for theatre and the performing arts.

With a focus on management theory, budgeting, scheduling, hiring, maintaining safety and touring, students develop the skills to work in various entertainment venues (including theatre, dance, opera) and on special events. Students also take on advanced roles on WAAPA productions and projects across genres including Acting, Music Theatre, Dance (Contemporary & Classical), Opera, Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to identify and solve problems during the conceptualisation, prioritisation and realisation of creative ideas in production management.
  2. Demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge in depth of the historical and contemporary evolution and methodologies in theatre or film production.
  3. Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge to generate and realise production management paths through the exploration of creative processes and evaluation of performance outcomes.
  4. Successfully communicate production management knowledge and ideas using innovative techniques.
  5. Demonstrate initiative and judgement in planning, problem-solving and decision making during the conception, preparation, management and execution of productions.
  6. Adapt knowledge and skills in diverse collaborative contexts to realise and manage productions.
