This course is intended to broaden students' understanding of themselves, their community and society, as well as prepare them for work as policy makers, managers and practitioners within the community/public service sector.

Students are required to complete a professional placement unit during the course. The requirements for this professional placement vary depending on the major that is selected.
Risk Management Assessment is negotiated with the agencies and ECU under agreement arrangements. Students are required to have a Working With Children check.
Students undertaking the Majors in Community Work and Children and Family Studies are required to complete the competencies as set out by Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA). Students undertaking the Major in Human Services are required to complete the competencies as set out by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
The accrediting bodies competencies are required to be met.
Students should be aware that failure to successfully complete the practicum unit will result in failure of the course.

Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) have accredited this course. To meet the professional accreditation requirements with ACWA, students must undertake certain units including 400 hours in the community and social science field.
