University Preparation Course (Education)

This course offers an entry pathway into selected undergraduate teaching degrees at ECU and prepares students for university-level study by teaching them the required skills for academic success, with an emphasis on the student becoming an independent learner. Students consider professional skills for educators, child and adolescent development, supporting diverse learners and curriculum studies as a context for developing knowledge and skills. The course is suitable for both recent school leavers and mature age students who have not studied at university previously, and for Education Assistants seeking professional development, which leads to entry into selected teaching degrees.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Act responsibility for functions and output for self, and with limited responsibility for the organisation and output of others in collaborative education settings. (AQF IV,3)
  2. Apply broad factual, technical and theoretical knowledge required to be an independent learning at university (AQF IV,1)
  3. Apply broad factual, technical and theoretical knowledge required to support teaching and learning (AQF IV,1)
  4. Communicate solutions and use specialist technical skills to a defined set of predictable and unpredictable teaching and learning challenges in education environments (AQF IV,2,3)
  5. Use cognitive skills to identify, analyse, and compare alternative solutions to select appropriate educational resources for a variety of contexts (AQF IV,2)

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 2)

  • Year 12 completion or equivalent.

English Language requirement (Band 2)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 General English grade C or better;
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Portfolio pathway applications are not accepted for this course.
