Master of Mental Health Nursing

Effective from 01-JAN-2025 : Code C94

The Master of Mental Health Nursing is for nurses who work within mental health services or wish to specialise in mental health. You will apply a specialised body of knowledge to your chosen field of practice. Throughout this course you will enhance your knowledge and understanding of recent developments and research in mental health with the overall aim of using you skills in critical thinking and evidence-based practice to lead improvements in the experiences of consumers and their families.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically reflect on a complex body of mental health nursing knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery of mental health nursing.
  2. Apply critical thinking skills to investigate, evaluate and synthesise complex ideas, concepts and theories in authentic clinical situations.
  3. Apply communication and collaboration skills to analyse and design innovative contributions to professional nursing practice.
  4. Use high level self-management skills to plan an evidence based practice project.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

  • Full Time: 1.5 Years
  • Part Time: 3 Years
