Master of Advanced Nursing

This course is for nurses who want to apply a specialised body of knowledge in their chosen area of specialist practice. Throughout this course you will enhance your knowledge and understanding of recent developments and research in your chosen area of practice. This course will facilitate the application of critical thinking and evidence-based practice to lead improvements in the experiences of consumers and their families.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically reflect on a complex body of nursing knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery of nursing.
  2. Apply critical thinking skills to investigate, evaluate and synthesise complex ideas, concepts and theories in authentic clinical situations.
  3. Apply communication and collaboration skills to analyse and design innovative contributions to professional nursing practice.
  4. Use high level self-management skills to plan an evidence based practice project.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

  • Full Time: 1.5 Years
  • Part Time: 3 Years
