Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care

This course will prepare you to develop knowledge and skills to practice contemporary primary health care across a range of contexts. You will explore and analyse factors causing health inequity within and between Australian populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations will be considered as an example of a primary health care organisation underpinned by the universal principles of primary health care. Learning activities will support essential critical thinking, autonomy and advocacy skill development. The suite of optional units provides an opportunity for you to focus on your area of interest and expertise.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply independent judgement and analytic skills to investigate and synthesise population health information to identify community health needs.
  2. Demonstrate leadership skills by evaluating, planning, and implementing health promotion programs in primary health care practice applying a multidisciplinary team approach.
  3. Communicate specialised knowledge, concepts, and skills to a variety of audiences in the field of primary health care.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 6)

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.
