Master of Nursing (Research)

This course prepares students to be independent researchers with the ability to develop and complete a research project relevant to nursing. The course is relevant to nurses with an interest in improving care through evidence based practice as well as nurses with an interest in research and those planning a career in the field of research.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply cognitive, technical and creative skills to explore and extend contemporary practice through research activities.
  2. Apply communication and collaboration skills to analyse, and disseminate research that makes a contribution to knowledge in the field of nursing.
  3. Reflect critically on a complex body of nursing knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery in the field of nursing.
  4. Use high-level self-management skills to plan and execute a substantial piece of research.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 5)

International students (other than those students schooled in a recognised country as defined by APHRA at http://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registration-Standards/English-language-skills.aspx) are required to provide any English language test approved by AHPRA with a score equivalent to an IELTS Academic overall minimum score of 7.0 (no individual band less than 7.0). Internationally schooled applicants may also be required to meet this requirement or we may require additional information to confirm that requirements have been satisfied.

Minimum English standard requirements for this course may also be satisfied with one of the following:

  • Bachelor degree from an approved country;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor Degree in Nursing, with equivalents considered, and be a Registered Nurse in any country.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 9 Masters Degree (Research) Award.
