Graduate Certificate of Education

The Graduate Certificate in Education (GCE) is designed to continue to allow access to additional qualifications for teachers but in a sustainable and flexible way. The postgraduate course offers opportunity to delve deeper into specialist areas that align with classroom practice and allows for individual reading and research that align with current concerns.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse complex problems to generate creative solutions within a chosen specialisation or discipline.
  2. Critically analyse professional approaches, knowledge and skills within a diverse range of educative contexts.
  3. Manage own learning within a collaborative learning environment.
  4. Transmit specialised knowledge, skills and ideas to audiences engaged in education.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor degree in Education or equivalent or a Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline or, where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience. One or more of the specialisations in this course has admission requirements. Refer to the specialisation for more information.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate Award.
