Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering

This course is designed to provide a practical level of knowledge and skills for engineering graduates who wish to expand their knowledge in the area of petroleum engineering. The course is comprised of a set of foundation specialist units covering core skill areas in petroleum engineering including reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, production engineering, and exploration engineering. The course will provide an opportunity for qualified engineers to expand their skill set to in-demand areas within the oil and gas industry, allowing them to diversify their career opportunities.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply high level, independent judgement when analysing and evaluating complex petroleum engineering related problems to generate creative solutions.
  2. Demonstrate management skills by initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating projects in the field of petroleum engineering.
  3. Communicate advanced knowledge, concepts and skills to variety of audiences in the field of petroleum engineering.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have completed a Bachelor of Engineering, or a Bachelor of Technology, or a Bachelor of Science in geoscience, geology, physics/applied physics, chemistry/applied chemistry, or mathematics/applied mathematics, with equivalents considered.
