Master of Communication

The Master of Communications is a coursework program that provides graduates in the discipline of communications with the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and understanding of theory and practice in contemporary communications. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and research ability through the design and execution of a Masters project. This will be a guided independent study leading to the development of a significant product in the area of the students interest and expertise based on a process of inquiry, analysis and synthesis.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply innovation and initiative through the creation and/or co-creation of informed contributions of value for communities, networks and/or organisations, responding to complex challenges.
  2. Demonstrate a high level of interdependence and individual accountability through researching, initiating, planning, executing and defending a substantial project.
  3. Demonstrate mastery of the theories, research methodologies and technical skills in the communications profession.
  4. Identify, interpret, critically evaluate, and apply the theories, approaches, emerging trends, and technologies of the communications professions.

Admission requirements

  • Into a 120 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree in the same discipline; or
  • Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree in the same discipline; or
  • Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree; or
  • Into a 240 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years appropriate professional experience.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

It is desirable that all applicants have five years appropriate professional experience.
