Course Information

Graduate Certificate of Secondary Education (Mathematics)

Effective from 01-JAN-2019 : Code L77

This course provides an opportunity for motivated and academically capable primary and secondary teachers to re-engage in a learning area of great demand, although this does not offer a formal teaching accreditation in a mathematics minor as such. An emphasis upon both the Australian Curriculum content and best teaching practice for late primary and early secondary students in Australian schools is a strong and consistent theme across all units. The specialisation provides a refresher and a consolidation of content skills in mathematics up to and including Year 10, and also closely examines the learning needs of students as they transition in mathematics from primary to secondary school. The course is supported by both highly organised materials and flexible delivery for off-campus. Recent participating teachers have consistently found new mathematics teaching work in schools, or greatly improved their understanding of teaching mathematics.
