Undergraduate Certificate in Health Science

Are you interested in enhancing the health and wellbeing of communities? Then this University Certificate of Health Science may be the pathway to an exciting career! Health Science covers the the physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions of health and looks to promote and enhance health and wellness and minimise the impact of preventable health problems. This course prepares students for university study and provides a standalone qualification as an introduction to the discipline. It is suitable for both recent school leavers and mature age students who have not studied at university previously. The course is designed to build the skills and knowledge required for academic success in Health Science and to develop their capacity and confidence to be an independent learner. Successful completion of this course will qualify graduates for entry to the K97 Bachelor of Health Science with credit for three units. Disciplines within Health Science include Addiction Studies, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Nutrition Bioscience, Occupational Safety and Health and Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicate specialised health science knowledge and values in a variety of ways.
  2. Use critical and creative thinking to analyse, interpret and formulate responses to diverse health science challenges.
  3. Exercise accountability and responsibility for the development of health science knowledge, technical skills and values to enhance personal growth.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 2)

All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 completion or equivalent.

English Language requirement (Band 3)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
  • University Preparation Course;
  • Indigenous University Orientation Course;
  • Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment;
  • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.
