Physics is the fundamental science that underpins research and development in the areas of microelectronics, opto-electronics and photonics, materials science and engineering. These fields are at the forefront of ECU's areas of research strength in Engineering and ICT (Communications, Information and Microelectronic Technologies). This program allows the integration and participation of highly specialised Physics-trained students in the research programs of the University, and generates highly-skilled graduates to fulfil the future needs of Australian industry, academia and government. The Honours course consists of a fourth research-based year after students have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in either Physics or Physical Sciences.

All students are required to be completing a Bachelor of Science with a course average of 70 per cent or better.
