News is a vital component of a strong democracy and a powerful tool for social change. However, in a competitive media jobs market, graduates should be adaptable and ready for multiple roles and opportunities within the industry. Building on news storytelling skills, this course will also equip students to work in entertainment media. Whether creating stories to inform or entertain, the Graduate Diploma in News and Entertainment Media aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to make meaningful and positive contributions to society through traditional and new communication channels (radio, tv, streaming).

All applicants are required to to meet the published entry requirements. Alternatively, applicants may apply with a Graduate Certificate in Screen Production or similar. Successful applicants with a Bachelor degree, or higher, with significant coursework in a related field, or the combination of relevant coursework and two years relevant professional experience, may seek reduced course duration by applying for recognition of prior learning (up to 60 credit points). Degrees with significant coursework (ie. a major) include: Screen Production, Film, Broadcast Media, Media Production. Degrees with relevant coursework and two years relevant professional experience include: Arts or Creative Industries with any major (other than those above) and at least two years of relevant experience in a Screen Industry role.
This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma Award.
Students are required to complete 4 core units (totalling 80 credit points) and 2 units from the Core Options list (totalling 40 credit points).
