Graduate Certificate of Leadership in Mining Workplace Safety

The Graduate Certificate of Leadership in Mining Workplace Safety (GCLMWS) targets aspiring and current, middle and senior managers in Western Australia’s mining sector, to build leadership capability focused on improving a culture of workplace safety, preventing sexual harassment, reducing workplace fatalities and injuries, and preparing the workforce for future safety challenges and opportunities. This course is offered in partnership with the Western Australian Government’s Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety’ (MARS) program, administered by the Department of Mining, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate safety leadership management skills by initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating tasks in the context of mining
  2. Apply independent judgement when analysing and evaluating complex problem problems to generate creative solutions for mining operations and organisations
  3. Communicate specialised knowledge, concepts and skills to a variety of audiences in mining contexts

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 6)

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Duration

  • Full Time: 0.5 Years
  • Part Time: 1 Year

Course Delivery

  • Joondalup: Full Time, Part Time

Non standard timetable requirements

Units in this course are delivered from Joondalup or Online, with two-day intensives delivered from Wellington Street in Perth CBD. Each unit will run over a period of five to eight weeks.
