Graduate Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Studies)

This course is designed to meet the needs of practising primary teachers who wish to have a recognised qualification, as well as the skills and pedagogical understandings to teach in early childhood settings (Birth to Pre-Primary).

Practicum Requirement

Students are required to complete PPA5106 Professional Practice.

Duty of care

All students are required to supply evidence of a current National Police History Check from the Department of Education WA before commencing their placement. Application forms and further information are available at www.det.wa.edu.au/screening/detcms/portal In addition, all students 18 years of age and over, must provide evidence of a current, valid Working with Children Check from the Department of Child Protection WA, or show proof of application before commencing their placement. Attendance requirements

Professional Practice is undertaken on a full-time basis and teaching students are required to give a full-time commitment to the school or early childhood setting during the scheduled Professional Practice period.

Enrolment process

Students are required to have completed the three theoretical units prior to commencement of PPA5106 Professional Practice.

Implications of failing

PPA5106 Professional Practice must be successfully completed for the Graduate Certificate of Education (Early Childhood Studies) to be awarded.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years appropriate professional experience

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All students are required to have a three-year or four-year primary teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Primary), or a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary), with equivalents considered.
