Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering

This Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering provides an opportunity for practicing engineers and technologists in the broad electrical engineering field to update and broaden their discipline skills to adapt to new requirements for professional practice. A balanced approach between theory and practice is used in the course, giving students a comprehensive exposure to advanced concepts and techniques concerning the design and operation of renewable energy systems. Opportunities for practical knowledge development are provided through access to a state-of-the-art teaching facility, equipped with a wide range of renewable energy generation, monitoring and management systems. For recent graduates this course enables the adding of a second specialisation to a first degree, thus broadening opportunities for career development. For more experienced engineers, the course can contribute to ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements, and provide a pathway to adding a second area of accredited practice or to bring knowledge and skills up to date with modern standards.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicate renewable energy knowledge, concepts and skills to a variety of engineering audiences.
  2. Apply independent judgement when analysing and evaluating renewable energy engineering issues, in order to develop creative solutions.
  3. Demonstrate management skills by planning, implementing and evaluating renewable energy engineering tasks.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.
