In the Master of Business Analytics students will be exposed to a range of relevant theory, knowledge and approaches to develop and enhance their conceptual and practical understanding of data analytics in business areas such as accounting and finance, human resource management, marketing, supply chain management and the information systems required to support these areas. Students will also be given opportunities to work with a range of Business Analytics tools to identify patterns and trends in complex data sets, and to visualise them in meaningful ways. Such an understanding is essential for those who want to pursue a role in Business Analytics as well as for business professionals who want to improve the quality of data-driven decisions in their business areas.

Students have the option of selecting an internship specialisation comprising two 30 credit point units (FBL6505 Professional Internship I and FBL6510 Professional Internship II) taken over two semesters. For these units students must complete a minimum of 225 hours of relevant work experience with a host organisation. This is typically structured as six to seven weeks work on a full-time basis but working arrangements may vary individually. Internships and partners will be secured by the School of Business and Law Work Integrated Learning team or can be organised by the students themselves. Any opportunities secured by students will be vetted to ensure they provide a meaningful learning experience. Terms of payment, if any, will be negotiated on an individual basis. Enrolment into this unit is by application only and enrolment into a particular course will not guarantee a place on the internship program. As this unit focuses on the personal and professional development of the individual, no RPL will be considered for this unit. Students who do not select the internship specialisation can opt to apply to enrol in BUS6900 Business Practicum as one of five core option units. This is a one semester unit which requires students to work for between 100 and 150 hours with the host organisation, hosts and internships secured in the same way as the units in the internship specialisation. No RPL will be given for this unit. Students not selecting either of these options will graduate having experienced simulations, industry case studies and engagement with industry speakers.
With COVID-19, hosts may require students to be fully vaccinated and provide proof thereof. ECU protocols will be applied.

All applicants are required to meet the published entry requirements. Alternatively, applicants may apply with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Business Analytics. Successful applicants with a Graduate Certificate qualification or higher in Business Analytics may seek reduced course duration by applying for recognition of prior learning. Special entry may be considered for students with a cognate bachelor degree in business analytics who can apply for a reduced course duration.
This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 9 Masters Degree (Coursework) Award.
