Graduate Certificate in Criminology and Justice

Interested in criminology and justice? Does your job require behavioural management or investigational skills? Or maybe you’re looking for career change and already have a degree in a field like psychology, social science or youth work? Either way, this course will extend your skillset and open up new career opportunities. You can select from a range of interesting topics, including Cyber Criminology, Investigative Practice or Misconduct and Corruption Prevention. The course will prepare you to enter roles in both private and public organisations. And as a graduate, you’ll also have the opportunity to fast-track your studies in a Master of Criminology and Justice.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply a specialised understanding of complex and emerging knowledge in criminology and justice to various domains of professional practice.
  2. Apply independent judgement to research, evaluate and synthesise complex issues in criminology and justice.
  3. Apply communication, collaboration, and reflective skills to create innovative solutions to complex issues in criminology and justice.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 6)

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to meet the published entry requirements. Successful applicants with a Bachelor degree, or higher, withsignificant coursework in a related field or professional learning in contemporary policing practice or relevant professional practice may seek reduced course duration by applying for recognition of prior learning (up to 20 credit points).

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate Award.
