Bachelor of Laws Honours

The Bachelor of Laws Honours program provides students with the chance to engage in extensive research and enhance their academic accomplishments. This additional year of study is tailored to build upon the knowledge students have gained during their undergraduate Law program. Under the guidance of an Academic, students will undertake an in-depth research project on a topic of their choice while concurrently refining their research skills through coursework. Completing the Bachelor of Laws Honours program offers several advantages for high-achieving law graduates. It acknowledges their outstanding academic performance and research abilities, setting them apart from their peers. This recognition can bolster their resumes and enhance their competitiveness in the job market. Moreover, the Honours program can act as a pathway to pursue further research opportunities, including pursuing a PhD or a Master's degree by research in the field of law. Course Learning Outcomes

1. Apply advanced knowledge and research and technical skills to plan and execute research activities
2. Employ cognitive, creative and other relevant skills to investigate a research question.
3. Communicate research output in a convincing and coherent manner, appropriate to the audience and disseminate to peers in the academic community
4. Conduct advanced legal research to address complex legal issues.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

• Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
• Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 3)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

• Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
• Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
• IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0);
• Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
• University Preparation Course;
• Indigenous University Orientation Course;
• AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree;
• Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
• Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have completed their Bachelor of Laws degree or Juris Doctor from a recognised Australian University and achieved a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 or higher. For students completing the double degree, the WAM considered would be for the Law program only. Additionally, the acceptance of a student as a Honours candidate will depend on the discipline's supervisory expertise to guide the student on the topic of interest.

Portfolio pathway applications are not accepted for this course.
