Description

This unit provides introductory Information Communication and Technology (ICT) skills for students entering tertiary education. Students will learn Internet search skills. The unit develops familiarity with Edith Cowan University's online library resources as well as the broader resources of the www. Students will also learn file management, word processing and spreadsheet skills using Microsoft software.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competency in building an Endnote library and using Endnote for in-text referencing.
  2. Demonstrate familiarity in Microsoft Excel.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity in Microsoft Word.
  4. Search thewww for specific information; and retrieve relevant information.

Unit Content

  1. Essay writing using selected capabilities of MS Word and Endnote Software. University conventions will be used.
  2. Exploration of selected capabilities of MS Excel.
  3. Location of information from a variety of www sources. These include: general www resources from public websites; online databases available through Edith Cowans Library web page.
  4. Use of PowerPoint presentation software.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lectures, discussion groups, presentations, independent learning activities.
