The unit explores the application of business analytics in accounting and finance. The ever-changing competitive context requires timely and informed decision-making to address the raising complexity and uncertainty. Students will gain knowledge to develop informed and accurate financial insight to support strategies and decisions that can improve organisational performance. By focusing on the main drivers of financial performance, and by understanding the underlying opportunities and challenges, the unit will build students’ knowledge and skills to evaluate and provide informed decisions based on the use of financial and non-financial data.

Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies
ACC6045 is delivered in a blended learning concept where pre-work is strongly emphasised. Students are expected to complete a weekly task assigned via the unit's Canvas site. This unit also extends the students' analytical skills in conventional statistical models using a software package, and advanced analytics using Python libraries. The latter include machine learning algorithms to analyse numerical data and natural language programming to extract information from textual data. Custom built Python codes have been written which are provided to the students as part of the weekly prework that will assist in building a fully functional data analytics app.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
