Description

This unit extends the skills of the actor and requires more exacting and greater detail in scene preparation and performance. Emphasis is placed on the ability to apply the process of rehearsal to a transformative performance and understand and apply the principals of standard theatre practice to the work in the ensemble. It also introduces the roles and working methods of various artistic and technical personnel involved in professional theatre. A high level of integration of class work is expected in the performances in this unit.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply standard theatre practice to the work in the rehearsal.
  2. Develop a sound approach to character.
  3. Evaluate the breakthroughs and shortcomings of each assessment event.
  4. Perform with the ability to contact and affect your scene partner.
  5. Transfer text analysis and acting technique to rehearsal.

Unit Content

  1. A play, rehearsed and performed to the school.
  2. Analysis of acting and the ensemble (written and oral).
  3. Create and perform scene using a set of provided scripted directions, e.g The Bearer Bonds Exercise (ref Stanislavski).
  4. Scene presentation.
  5. Technical roles within the theatre.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Rehearsals and performance/showing in a studio and/or locations, Critical feedback, including an oral self assessment occurring after each showing, Library activities.
