Description

In this unit students will bring all the elements of their acting skills training in the course so far and integrate them into two creative projects. Working with staff and/or guest directors, students will firstly rehearse and perform a Contemporary Scene Showing to full-time staff. Then students will rehearse and perform a studio production of a full length play for a school audience. A high level of integration of all class work is expected in the performances.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Perform scene/play with a fundamental understanding and motivated mental, physical and emotional life.
  2. Perform scene/play with clearly devised and discernible character development.
  3. Perform scene/play with ability to contact and affect your scene partner.
  4. Perform scene/play with an understanding of vocal integration, accurate learning of text, efficient articulation and effective breath support.
  5. Perform scene/play with an understanding of physical integration, spatial relationships, kinaesthetic response and body awareness.

Unit Content

  1. Rehearse and perform a contemporary, naturalistic scene.
  2. Rehearse and perform a full length, naturalistic play for staff and student audience.
  3. Performing heightened emotional dynamic characters appropriate to the scene/play.
  4. Swift specific thought changes.
  5. Sustaining onstage relationships while focusing on the build of the scene.
  6. Demonstrate a clear arc of character's journey.
  7. Ability to self-assess personal practice and identify goals for improvement.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Rehearsals and performance/showing in a studio and/or locations, Critical feedback, including an oral self assessment occurring after each showing, library activities. Research and development in the field/rehearsal.

  1. Perform scene/play showing clearly devised and discernible character development and an ability to contact and affect a scene partner.
  2. Integrate foundational vocal techniques into performance during a scene/play.
  3. Use foundational physical techniques in performance during a scene/play.
  4. Apply self-management skills and test fundamental knowledge of professional theatre practice in a theatre production context.
  5. Apply self-assessment of personal practice for improvement in the rehearsal and performance environments.

Unit Content

  1. Rehearse and perform a contemporary, naturalistic scene.
  2. Rehearse and perform a full length play for staff and student audience.
  3. Perform heightened, emotional, dynamic characters appropriate to the scene/play.
  4. Realize theatre as an accomplished ensemble.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
