Description

This unit continues to open up the physical range of the actor through partner dance styles training and maintaining ongoing awareness in movement and conditioning for a fully expressive and physically confident actor. All practices undertaken will support movement knowledge for the actor and seek to extend the physical and creative capacity of the actor for application in production work and relevant projects.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Rehearse and perform a partner dance with detail, co-ordination and presence.
  2. Embody the given period, style or genre of the partner dance for a theatrical context.
  3. Display a safe and responsive working practice with your partner.
  4. Integrate body, mind and breath awareness for performance preparation.

Unit Content

  1. Undertake a Body Mind Practice.
  2. Undertake partner dance in a selected given style, could include but is not limited to swing, jive, waltz, tango.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Appropriate movement studios, intensive workshops and small group, solo and duo exercises, public performance. In-class feedback, observation and discussion. Completion of homework and preparation self-rehearsal and self-study.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Description

This unit prepares the actor with physical skills necessary for the professional actor. The student will maintain ongoing practice in conditioning for a fully confident and expressive actor. Through approaches integrating mind and body, classes will support movement knowledge for the actor and seek to extend the physical and creative capacity of the actor for application in production work and relevant projects.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Integrate awareness of time, distance and proportion into choreographed movement sequences that could include stage combat, partner dance and contact improvisation.
  2. Present a choreographed stage combat fight with definition, given circumstances, and awareness.
  3. Exercise safe practice as it relates to choreographed movement sequences.
  4. Integrate physical strength, body, mind and breath awareness in the preparation and presentation of performance.
