Description

Showcase is the final performance of the degree programme to which industry people are invited and the link to a professional career is established. Scenes, monologues and possibly musical numbers are chosen, rehearsed and staged. A showreel is also filmed and shown at these events. The performances are in national theatres, usually in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. It is common to make contact with agents during these events and it is regarded as the showpiece of the WAAPA actors.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Manage touring effectively and professionally.
  2. Negotiate a meeting with agents and discussions about a future career.
  3. Prepare and perform to professional standard a monologue or a scene.

Unit Content

  1. Australian and International Contemporary Theatre and Film.
  2. Choosing a scene or monologue to best suit your acting abilities.
  3. Discussion with agents and casting directors.
  4. Make a showreel and negotiate editing and post production requirements effectively.
  5. Performance.
  6. Rehearsal.

Additional Learning Experience Information

To develop, rehearse and perform on screen and stage in the graduating Acting Showcase to a public audience, including agents and casting agents in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, Classroom workshops, formal studio rehearsals and one-on-one tutorials, TV Studio and location film shoots will occur for the students show reel material.
