Description

Students are introduced to the management functions and business practices of the Australian theatre, film and television industry. The focus is on the responsibilities and techniques necessary for the planning and implementation of a successful career as a performing artist. This unit introduces key concepts in strategic planning and management, representation, marketing, finance, law, occupational health and safety, funding, and sponsorship development. It explores strategies for self-management, publicity and promotion, producing and corporate training. Practical knowledge and transferable skills are emphasized in order to commence and maintain a professional career after graduation.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify funding, marketing and business strategies that underlie the Australian theatre, film and television industries.
  2. Prepare personal and professional documentation and marketing material.
  3. Apply the principles of self-management to career development.

  2. Scholarships and travel grants.
  3. Producing and performing independent theatre.
  4. Business management skills.
  5. Publicity, promotion and marketing.
  6. Theatrical representation.
  7. Corporate training.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
