Description

This unit aims to provide students with familiarity and competence in the use of the most commonly used computing platforms and applications encountered in an arts organization. In particular, students will build their skills in: the use of common productivity applications for the production of documentation and digital presentations, and engaging in networked communications; critical use of online resources for effective research and information gathering; and managing the particularities of maintaining an organisation's web presence.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an appropriate level of online information research skills.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of arts company written communications by producing business documents to a professional standard.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in commonly used arts workplace productivity application such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access and Outlook.
  4. Employ a variety of digital media tools to deliver presentations of relevance to an arts workplace.

Unit Content

  1. Demonstrate a practical understanding of the key features of websites.
  2. Enhanced software features that allow for importing into the one document images, text, graphics etc from other applications.
  3. Operating systems and cross-platform issues.
  4. Research processes using the World Wide Web and library databases.
  5. Software applications involving word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and presentation support.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
