Description

This unit examines the various ways in which a performing arts event is produced, from first concept to final realisation. It investigates the roles and processes undertaken by the specialist arts personnel involved in delivering or creating productions, including the requirements of company management in facilitating and overseeing the process. Industry guests are used throughout to provide critical information regarding their particular functions.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have passed ADM1415

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded ADM2350

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and functions of all participants involved in staging a performing arts event.
  2. Identify and describe the technical and production requirements for differing art forms.
  3. Identify and describe the varying levels of functionality provided by specific types of venues.

Unit Content

  1. Production budgeting and other documentation requirements.
  2. Production equipment.
  3. Production requirements for touring.
  4. The process involved in creating a production: lighting; sound; sets; vision; and costumes.
  5. The roles of the creative and production team.
  6. Venues and their properties.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
