Description

Focusing on the skills required to manage human, financial and capital resources in arts organisations, this unit aims to develop students ability to manage limited resources effectively. This unit builds on students management and leadership studies by examining how to integrate diverse human and physical resources into arts business planning.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 2 units from ADM1310, ADM2415

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically discuss the principles and processes of human resource management in arts organisations.
  2. Demonstrate cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills.
  3. Discuss the national framework of industrial relations and employment law in the arts.
  4. Identify the principles of effective asset management for arts organisations.
  5. Understand the role of risk management in the arts.

Unit Content

  1. Cultural dimensions and cross-cultural communication.
  2. Human resource management in the arts: job analysis and design, recruitment and selection, management for performance, negotiation.
  3. Managing a diverse workforce.
  4. Negotiation skills.
  5. Strategic resource management: planning and forecasting; targets and control; asset management; change process.
  6. The industrial relations landscape for the arts in Australia: legislation, key bodies and agencies.
  7. The legal responsibilities of employers and employees.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lecturers and tutorials incorporating discussion; problem solving and simulations.
