Description

This unit involves a ten-week, full-time placement with a professional local, national or international arts organisation, chosen and arranged by the individual student. The placement acts as an opportunity to refine workplace skills, establish an industry network and gain further applied understanding of the arts industry within different cultural contexts.

Students must pass 18 units from ADM1310, ADM1315, ADM1320, ADM1325, ADM1330, ADM1335, ADM1340, ADM2410, ADM2415, ADM2420, ADM2425, ADM2430, ADM2435, ADM2445, ADM2455, ADM3510, ADM3520, ECF1110

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Calculate an appropriate entry point into the profession.
  2. Determine the use of theory in improving organisational practise.
  3. Evaluate personal work skills and determine which require further refinement.
  4. Identify what is required to be an effective company employee within the professional work environment.
  5. Work effectively in environments with different cultural expectations.

Unit Content

  1. Exposure to the company's overall functioning.
  2. Involvement in the operations of the host company.
  3. Personal attributes required for arts employment.
  4. The impact of different cultural environments on art form management and practice.
  5. The relationship between a company's management, administration, production and performance/artistic staff.
  6. Workplace observations and research and application to theory.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
