Description

This unit focuses on planning, teaching and assessing visual arts in the context of the post compulsory secondary arts education. Students will learn to interpret curriculum documents and apply these to their own planning. The unit will extend long-term planning skills and will outline the role of assessment in affecting teaching and learning for visual arts.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Synthesise relevant information to conceptualise learning experiences that align with elective visual arts education syllabi.
  2. Apply discipline knowledge to plan lessons and devise learning programs in art making and art interpretation.
  3. Explain the role of assessment in elective visual arts education courses.
  4. Design appropriate tasks for assessing students in visual arts education.

  2. Assessment principles and practices for visual arts education.
  3. Emergent content and topics for visual arts education across art making and interpretation.
  4. Resources and approaches to teaching visual arts in the elective courses.

This unit consists of lectures and practical workshops. The students will engage in collaborative learning experiences as well as independent research. Individual student support is provided in both face-to-face workshops and online through Blackboard.
