Primary teachers require a sound pedagogical understanding of the role of the visual arts in the creative development of primary children. In this unit, students will work from a practical visual arts focus to develop confidence, understanding and skill across a range of visual arts studio areas. At the same time, they will examine the importance of the visual arts in children's lives and education, the nature of authentic learning, reflective practice, advocacy, forms of representation, gallery responses, as well the integration into other learning areas. Current research, theory and resources, including IT, will support this unit.

This unit will comprise a series of studio workshops, a gallery visit, reflective tasks, collaborative activities, online inquiry and independent tasks.
