Description

In this unit, students will work collaboratively from a practical and experiential drama focus to develop confidence, understanding and skills in performance and stagecraft. Concurrently, students will critically reflect on the role of the Arts in children's lives and education and the value of Arts' integration. Students will be given the opportunity to analyse and synthesise abstract drama concepts to create and communicate meaningful performance work to an authentic audience. The work will be supported through the investigation and analysis of historical and contemporary pedagogical approaches in drama education.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Research and apply a range of skills in performance and stagecraft.
  2. Critically analyse and collaborate in an interconnected Arts experience.
  3. Investigate, analyse and justify the relationship of drama education in teaching and learning processes.
  4. Reflect critically on aesthetic Arts' experiences and justify their value for students in education.

Unit Content

  1. Written and devised texts as a means of interacting and communicating with authentic audiences.
  2. Performance components of basic theatrical conventions.
  3. Teacher/actor as performer, including use of voice, movement and imagination.
  4. Historical and contemporary approaches to drama theory and methodology used in education.
  5. Integrated approaches to the Arts in education.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
