Description

This unit provides practical preparation for working in contemporary broadcast media. It covers basic instruction in vocal technique and presentation skills, including reading, ad-libbing, interviewing, and observation/description. Technical skills include basic digital audio recording and editing. Students will evaluate a range of broadcasting presentation styles in the context of target audiences, and employ the principles of gathering and conveying information for broadcast.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the relationship between broadcast programs and target audience.
  2. Compare the presentation styles of a range of broadcasters.
  3. Demonstrate basic interviewing, ad-libbing, observation/description and vocal techniques associated with audio broadcasting.
  4. Plan and research material for broadcast.
  5. Record and edit digital audio materials.

  1. Ad-libbing technique.
  2. Evaluating broadcast presentation styles.
  3. Interviewing for broadcast.
  4. Observation and description.
  5. Sourcing stories and communicating ideas.
  6. The importance of target audience in broadcasting.
  7. Using simple audio recording and editing software.
  8. Vocal technique for broadcasting.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
