Description

In this unit students willdevelop a research proposal. Students will develop a range of skills necessary for postgraduate work, including an understanding of the role of supervision, the phases of thesis development, the acquisition of research skills, the processes of research, the management of time and resources, research ethics and the responsibilities involved in research.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply appropriate bibliographic skills.
  2. Apply appropriate research models to projects.
  3. Develop a research proposal.
  4. Select and develop a suitable topic for research.
  5. Use the Library and Internet efficiently and constructively for information gathering.

  1. How to conduct research in an academic environment.
  2. Management of time and resources.
  3. The problems confronting a new honours and postgraduate researcher.
  4. The process of selecting a suitable topic.
  5. The processes of research.
  6. The responsibilities involved in research.
  7. The use of the Internet for honours and postgraduate research.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Seminars and individual meetings with a research supervisor.
