Description

Students will select a topic for study in consultation with their unit coordinator or supervisor and research and write a deep study in the selected field using appropriate theoretical frameworks. This may be a creative project or a theoretical project and will usually deepen the student's knowledge in an area of interest.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate the information gathered from a range of sources for a complex study.
  2. Devise a strategy for investigating their chosen topic.
  3. Manage autonomous study with guidance from an academic supervisor.
  4. Present academic findings in an essay and/or creative project appropriate to their discipline.
  5. Undertake the research appropriate to their chosen area of study.

Unit Content

  1. Design and implementation of a research topic in an appropriate academic format.
  2. Development of autonomous study skills and work habits in preparation for Honours thesis.
  3. Development of conceptual understanding in subject matter particular to the chosen research topic.
  4. Research and development of a project to completion.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Individual meetings with a research supervisor. Some seminar attendance may be required, dependent on topic and to be negotiated with supervisor.
