Description

This unit introduces students to formal aspects of photographic image construction and fundamental production principles using digital photographic equipment. The potential of photography as communication will be explored through projects that promote the production of imaginative and engaging imagery.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate that both practical and conceptual ideas are supported by visual and theoretical research.
  2. Generate creative photographic works of professional standard.
  3. Integrate a variety of technical principles and concepts into image construction.
  4. Use photographic equipment and materials safely and effectively.

Unit Content

  1. Application of fundamental production principles regarding the use of frame, camera position, depth of field, lighting and exposure.
  2. Critical analysis of the role of photography in communication through study of selected innovative photographers.
  3. Strategies employed in the production of imaginative and engaging photomedia images.
  4. The use of a single lens reflex digital camera.
