Description

The unit introduces students to Catholic teaching on prayer and morality. Knowledge and understanding of prayer and morality will be linked to the teaching of the Religious Education Program (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary) used in Catholic schools in Western Australia. This unit is designed for students considering teaching in Catholic schools in Western Australia. Completion of three Catholic Education units forms part of the accreditation requirements to teach in Catholic schools. Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate and reflect upon strategies for teaching prayer in Catholic schools.
  2. Critique contemporary attitudes towards moral/ethical issues with the core principles of Christian morality.
  3. Integrate knowledge and understanding of prayer and morality with individual life experience.

Unit Content

  1. Human faith, religious faith, Christian faith.
  2. Students and prayer.
  3. Prayer in the Catholic school and Religious Education (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary).
  4. The search for happiness.
  5. Decision making and conscience.
  6. Being a moral person.
  7. Sin, forgiveness and reconciliation.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lectures, tutorials, student centred discussion groups, online learning activities and learning tasks.
