Description

This unit studies a range of contemporary issues which influence the theory and practice of Religious Education in Catholic schools in the Australian context. The unit explores issues pertaining to the nature and purpose of Religious Education, as well as socio-cultural and religious issues which constitute the broader context in which Religious Education is conducted. Students will be supported in building the required skills for critical analysis, evaluation, application and the integration of unit content.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critique broader curriculum, societal and religious issues that influence Religious Education.
  2. Critique common classroom theory and practice in the field of Religious Education in light of Church documents and current evidence-based research.
  3. Apply an advanced understanding of the following terms:revelation, evangelisation, catechesis, religious education.
  4. Evaluate issues in Religious Education related to their own school situation.

  3. Spirituality and Religious Education.
