Description

This unit examines the rationale and objectives for teaching the Digital Technology curriculum. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the aims, content and organisation of curricula in Years 7-10. They will explore the relationship between the outcomes of these curricula and effective pedagogy while acquiring skills in the planning for effective teaching in Digital Technology. This unit also provides an introduction to the philosophy and teaching of Digital Technology through a review of current Australian curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Articulate the nature of Digital Technology education in the Technologies learning area.
  2. Design learning programmes with clear learning goals informed by the secondary Digital Technology curriculum.
  3. Discuss the current SCSA curriculum and identify outcomes for lesson planning in secondary Digital Technology.
  4. Evaluate and design differentiated teaching and learning activities for a secondary Digital Technology classroom.
  5. Evaluate hardware, software and learning resources for the effective implementation of secondary Digital Technology curriculum.

Unit Content

  1. Examination of the Digital Technology curriculum and it's relation to the broader Technology curriculum.
  2. Examination of the concept of digital literacy in schools and society.
  3. Preparation of teaching programmes and lessons.
  4. Resources and equipment that could be integrated into Digital Technology education.
  5. Strategies to teach the use of applications software.
  6. Teaching strategies and evaluation strategies.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Plagiarism

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Assessment Extension
