Description

This unit examines principles, methods and technologies of enterprise information storage and management. It is aimed at equipping students with knowledge and skills that underpin the management of big data in an enterprise context. This unit also introduces students to cloud technologies and virtualisation techniques.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Implement storage solutions for data centre, enterprise, and cloud environments.
  2. Design virtualisation solutions and manage computer resources.
  3. Discuss business continuity planning and disaster recovery techniques in an enterprise environment.
  4. Evaluate potential challenges of managing big data in an enterprise context.

Unit Content

  1. Backup, recovery and replication methods and technologies.
  2. Business continuity planning.
  3. Components and features of connected storage.
  4. Features and components of current storage networking technologies (DAS, SAN, NAS & CAS).
  5. Information availability and measurement.
  6. Principles and methods of data stewardship.
  7. Storage networking and virtualization technologies.
  8. Storage virtualization technologies.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
