Research work undertaken as part of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of computer science.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Completed the study for their Doctoral thesis.
  2. Prepared their Doctoral thesis.
  3. Submitted their Doctoral thesis.

Unit Content

  1. The preparation and submission of the Doctoral thesis.
  2. The presentation of seminars on the area of study as required including: a seminar proposing a research program; presentations as required from time to time describing work in progress and the final outcomes of the research.
  3. The structure of a Doctoral thesis.
  4. The study for the Doctoral thesis in computer science.

Additional Learning Experience Information

In these two thesis units the student will implement and prepare for submission of the thesis. The study, and its progress, will be closely supervised by the appointed principal supervisor with the assistance of up to two additional supervisors. The preparation of the thesis will be done with the support of the principal supervisor, and with assistance from the higher degree coordinator in the School, the Faculty's Associate Dean of Research, the Research and Higher Degree Committee of the Faculty and the Graduate School staff. It is probable that at least one draft thesis will be prepared. The student and principal supervisor will mutually agree on progress review dates, and on draft submission dates. The procedures associated with progress through the Doctoral studies are documented in the Graduate School web page (Edith Cowan University (1999a).
