Description

This unit covers the concepts of methodologies, development models and historical issues affecting the development of software applications. It includes the design of user interfaces including mapping functionality to logical design. Issues affecting modern application design and delivery, including modelling, deployment and quality assurance will be examined.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 unit from CSG1207

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of a number of current development environments.
  2. Describe factors affecting modern application design and development.
  3. Describe the evolution of development languages.
  4. Design and implement integrated systems/database solutions.
  5. Outline the features of current database/development environments.

Unit Content

  1. Examination of issues in systems delivery and quality assurance.
  2. Human factor implications in user interface design.
  3. System design, planning, needs analysis and implementation.
  4. Use of coding strategies to implement reusability and efficiency.
  5. Use of integrated development environments and database management systems.
  6. Use of multiple high level programming languages.
