Description

This unit is undertaken by students who have been awarded a work experience project. In this unit the student is supervised by a staff member who is allocated as their academic supervisor in addition to an industrial supervisor who is an experienced staff member of the organisation hosting the work experience project.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

This is a work experience unit in which the placement is equivalent to at least one semester. Academic supervisors ensure that an agreed plan of work is executed and in company supervision is carried out by an industrial supervisor.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from CSG2344

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify, propose, plan and design an appropriate solution to the project(s) in terms of a detailed methodology or process.
  2. Implement solutions to the satisfaction of the academic and industrial supervisor.
  3. Meetthe specific outcomes and meet deadlines as defined in the project proposal statement.
  4. Reflect on the work experience to a point where they can adequately critique and defend aspects of their placement.
  5. Write a progress report to a specified format.

Unit Content

  1. Evaluation and discussion of project outcomes.
  2. Implementation of strategies and techniques appropriate to the project.
  3. Presentation of a progress report or equivalent project materials.
  4. Review of the literature relevant to the placement/project.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students, under the supervision of a nominated supervisor, will take responsibility for their own outcomes through regular feedback meetings with the academic supervisor, industrial supervisor and through independent study and research. The underpinning learning process is that of action learning in which aspects of the work experience are reflected upon with a view to altering future behaviour or tactics.
