Students undertaking this unit do so as the first of three related project units. In this unit, students prepare for the later execution of the project in the subsequent two units by clarifying and refining a project idea. The status and nature of the project idea will determine exactly in what ways students need to prepare and so it is not possible to specify objectives in a traditional manner. However, in general, students initiate, plan and design an independent project appropriate to the goals of their masters degree, under the supervision of a staff member. It is this process that provides a context for a learning experience to take place that draws on study in previous units.

Students, under the supervision of a nominated supervisor, will take responsibility for their own outcomes through regular meetings with their project group and supervisor, independent study and group research.
