Description

This unit focuses on the development of an Information Technology research proposal, in which the scope of the research will be presented along with the research questions, data collection methods and the overall design of the research.Students will formally present their research proposal to a gathering of staff, the research supervisor(s) and their peers.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Formulate a plan for how the research will be undertaken and over what period.
  2. Identify the contribution the research proposal will have in the broad context of the field being investigated.
  3. Lead a discussion of the research proposal in terms of its perceived strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Specify the various steps involved in the process of developing an information technology research proposal.
  5. Synthesis the research questions contained in the proposal in terms of background, significance of the research and prevailing literature in the field.

  1. Creating a presentation outlining the research proposal.
  2. Dealing with questions for the audience.
  3. Developing presentation handouts.
  4. Identifying key aspects of research proposal.
  5. Planning the research proposal.
  6. Presentation formatting.
  7. Rehearsing the presentation.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Work in this unit is based primarily on consultation with the student's research supervisor(s) to develop a presentation of the student's research proposal.
